Job Overview

Reporting to the field services shift supervisor, you will be responsible for the monitoring and functioning of groundwater and surface water networks which extend over the large areas of our oil sands operations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Identify and classify soil types through soil compaction testing and obtaining samples of fill materials
  • Observe and document earthworks construction procedures
  • Test, obtain and handle samples using procedures defined by the Inspection and Testing Manual
  • Obtain reliable test results in accordance with the inspection and testing plan
  • Prepare daily written reports regarding status and results of field investigations, testing and inspection
  • Provide input on quality assurance reports
  • Complete tasks within agreed upon schedule and hours
  • Maintain thorough field records on the construction developments
  • Document all conversation on field matters
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with project management, engineering and operations crews
Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:
  • Minimum of two years of experience in earthworks or surface mining
  • Experience in geotechnical or civil projects is preferred
  • Technical diploma or degree in environmental science, mining or civil engineering
  • Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) membership or eligibility is an asset
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Proficient in Minescape and/or Mine Sight, Microsoft Office and Trimble Business Centre would be an asset
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary integrated team environment
  • Well-developed critical thinking, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
Working Conditions
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
